What you're doing wrong

hen I evaluate hockey officials, I have a list of things to look for. Although none of the practices I write about in this article are on my "official list," if I see any of the 7 Habits of Highly Irritating Officials demonstrated by the guy or gal I’m evaluating, it usually means that official still has a lot of room for improvement. I mean, lots of room.

Just to jog your memory, here are the four habits we’ve covered so far:

1. Waving off goals that aren’t even close to going into the net.
2. Talking too much, especially to coaches.
3. The twisting washout.
4. The no-look icing.
