Hard-working?

'd like to tell you that Jake Kennedy was a hard-working, totally dedicated referee who studied the rule book religiously, went to as many clinics as he could, and watched other games and officials so he could learn how to be an even better referee.

I'd like to be able to tell you that. But I can't.

Don't get me wrong: During the game, Jake was all business. He worked hard on the ice and treated each game seriously.

But many of us would cringe when the instructor at a mandatory clinic (the only kind Jake attended) would ask what we were supposed to do in a particular scenario. We'd cringe because we knew what came next.
