Brendan Shanahan convened a summit on his own, trying to recommend changes to the rules. NHL Director of Hockey Operations, Colin Campbell, did the same, involving coaches this time.

There were a couple of consistencies between those two and many other attempts to update the rules. If they are enacted this coming year, it will be a major change for the game, the players, the officials, and the coaches.
