Fiasco on Vancouver Island
Reading the fine print does matter

ockey is one of those sports where protests are very rare. Opportunities to protest a game are far and few between, so it simply does not come up very often.

However, recently, the BC Junior Hockey League upheld a protest in a playoff game. Not just in a playoff game, but in game 7 of a 7-game series. Not just in game 7, but with under 2:00 to go in game 7!

The incident

With 1:20 remaining in the game, tied at 3, the goaltender for Powell River left his crease to smother a puck. That one was not even close:  With the new rules this year, that is an easy penalty call. Under Rule 58, the goaltender is assessed a minor penalty.
