he world of hockey trained its eyes on Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium abpit three weeks ago as everyone watched the first Heritage Classic.  For those of you not from Canada, the Heritage Classic pitted the Edmonton Oilers against the Montreal Canadiens in an outdoor game, the first in the history of the NHL.

Stripes dork

I am a stripes dork. My obsession with the men in stripes was taken for a bit of a loop during the game. The men in stripes were not the men in stripes at all. They were the men in cool retro togs. The plain, sort of creme-colored jerseys looked like a combination of the old Red Storey jersey and the new MLB Umpire shirts. There is a lot to be said for those jerseys. The look pretty cool, they don't look so obvious, and they look at least as comfortable as the old style jersey.
