he people who believe honesty is the best policy are often the ones who get the most upset when you tell them their hair looks like it was designed by Black and Decker.

In officiating, as in most things, too much honesty is not a good thing. Telling a 12-year-old, first-year official about all the mistakes he made will undoubtedly do more harm than good. Still, learning means learning from our own mistakes most of the time. So senior officials, when they're doing evaluations on younger officials, must be willing to point out the errors of their juniors.

We've not had a piece at Officiating.com urging — nay, exhorting — senior officials to do evaluations for the good of officialdom. So here's an abridged version of such a column: Hey, senior officials: Do evaluations.
