hose of you who flip through all the pages may be familiar with my writings on the baseball page. For the last 10 years, baseball umpiring has been my passion. I've been President of the Baseball Nova Scotia Umpires Division and have worked many national tournaments. But, like many Canadians, hockey was my first love. I, like virtually every Canadian, stood proudly when we kicked the Americans' behinds at a recent Olympics. I follow the Stanley Cup playoffs. Heck, I've even won a playoff pool or two!
You can blame my dad
It was in hockey that I first caught the officiating bug. When I was only 12, my dad thought it would be a good idea for me to referee. He had been the referee-in-chief for his local association for years, and my two older brothers had been refs, too. They works games with NHL official Don Koharski. Obviously, Don was a bit better than my brothers.
